Virtual Phone Number for Telegram Verification

Telegram works differently from most apps: your phone number is your account identity. There's no email-based login, no username-only option during signup — if you lose access to the number, you risk losing the account. And by default, anyone who has your number saved in their phone contacts will see your Telegram profile automatically, without you accepting any request.

This matters more than people realise. If you run a public channel, a community, or a bot, your personal SIM is the thread connecting you to that presence. A data leak, a social engineering attempt, or even a simple SIM swap could expose who's behind the account. A virtual number severs that thread — the Telegram account exists and functions normally, but it's not tied to your personal identity or carrier.

Beyond privacy, there's a practical reason: virtual numbers let you register additional accounts for testing or separating work from personal use, without needing a second physical SIM card.

The process takes about two minutes. Here's exactly how it works:

• Open Telegram on mobile or desktop and start a new account registration
• When prompted for a phone number, enter the virtual number from MrSMS — include the country code (e.g. +1 for US numbers)
• Tap Next. Telegram will send a verification SMS to that number
• Switch to your MrSMS dashboard — the code usually arrives within 10–30 seconds
• Enter the code in Telegram to complete registration

If no code arrives after 60 seconds, the number may be filtered by Telegram. Since MrSMS only charges on success, you can cancel and try a different country at no cost.

Set a Two-Step Verification password before you do anything else. Go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Two-Step Verification and create a cloud password. Add a recovery email too.

Next, go to Privacy and Security → Phone Number and change visibility to Nobody. This prevents your virtual number from appearing to any Telegram user who might have it in their contacts, which removes a potential way to link your identity to the account.

Finally, set Who can add me to groups and channels to "My Contacts" or "Nobody" while the account is new. Fresh accounts that accept all invitations often get flagged by Telegram's spam detection.

Telegram's SMS delivery varies significantly by country and carrier. Some regions have near-perfect delivery rates; others are routinely filtered. Based on activity on MrSMS, these tend to perform most reliably for Telegram:

• Ukraine and Russia — historically good availability for Telegram, though rates vary by carrier
• Kazakhstan and Georgia — good availability, though success rates change over time
• United States and United Kingdom — slightly higher price, but very consistent for US/UK-specific use cases
• Indonesia and India — large availability, useful when you need volume
• Germany and Poland — solid option for European accounts or when US numbers are being filtered

Success rates shift over time as Telegram adjusts which carriers it accepts. If your first choice doesn't deliver a code, switching countries usually resolves it — and since you only pay when a code arrives, there's no cost to the attempt.

When you create a Telegram channel, group, or bot, it belongs to the account you're logged into. That account is what you verify with the virtual number — the channel or bot itself doesn't require a separate SMS verification step.

For channel owners, using a virtual number adds a layer of security beyond privacy. If your account is ever compromised, having it tied to a virtual number rather than your real SIM means the attacker can't initiate a SIM swap to lock you out. Combined with a cloud password, this makes account takeover significantly harder.

If you're running multiple communities and want clear ownership separation, registering each admin account with its own virtual number is a cleaner setup than sharing one account across multiple large groups.
